(2019:) We aim to create more meeting places and comfortable zones where one can eat, meet, take calls, or just relax and enjoy the space.
COOPERATION AND SHARING
Sharing is at the center of Oslo Science Park’s philosophy and model. In 2018 we conducted a survey that showed that 75 % of the companies and organizations located in the Park have daily or weekly contact with others in the community. Further, 75 % also stated that they viewed co-locating as important.
Cooperation is also the idea behind building this science park 30 years ago: As a meeting place where scientists, industry, entrepreneurs, and investors can create better solutions and fuel innovation.
UPGRADING "GLASSGATA" AS A HOTSPOT
The area between the cafeterias on floor 0 is called Glassgata. This is where people move between work zones, eateries and meeting rooms. In this project, we have directed attention to how the physical infrastructure can play a bigger role in contributing to more sharing, contact, and cooperation between our tenants. We aim to develop the common spaces to meet the growing need for meeting places, as well as contributing to more contact between the tenants and guests in the Park.
We are renovating the Hagen Kantine, building a new amphitheater and staircase outside the bakery, creating a new meeting place behind the cinema, and building a whole new “lounge” in the space behind the Hagen Kantine, as part of our conference center.
An extension of Hardware Lab has already started on floor 0, below Parken Bakery.
In addition, we will upgrade the floors and lighting.
CONSEQUENSES FOR YOUR WORK DAY
The project will influence your work day this summer. The construction works starts on June 26 and will continue throughout July.
There will be noise from the construction work throughout the month of July. We will try to minimize the inconvenience for our tenants and guests, and when it is possible the most noisy works will be conducted between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
ALTERNATIVE MAIN ENTRANCE
The main entrance is closed between June 26 and August 5 due to the construction work. The area will be blocked and alternative route will be properly marked to the temporary entrance in building C, approximately 40 meters to the right from the main entrance.
TEMPORARY RECEPTION AND POST ROOM
The reception and post room get a temporary location, and will be placed in building E, as marked on the sketch above.
PARKEN BAKERY CLOSED
The Park Bakery will be closed. The Foodcourt canteen will be the only eatery that is open throughout the construction period.
MORE ABOUT THE AREAS:
We are renovating the Hagen Kantine for a better food experience. In addition, Gastro Catering will be taking over from ISS as our new cafeteria service provider.
- Amphitheater and staircase
We are building a new amphitheater and staircase from the reception to “Glassgaten”. This is designed and built to improve the whole entrance area and also the people flow between the 1st floor and floor 0. The staircase will serve as a natural hang out in the middle of Forskningsparken.
New furniture and a small stage behind the meeting room Kino will invite to formal and informal meetings as well as events.
We can also introduce a brand new addition to our meeting space; a new lounge with three meeting rooms. The demand for a variation of meeting spaces in Forskningsparken is high and we hope the lounge with connecting meeting rooms will meet some of the future needs.
The building of a Hardware Lab has already started on floor 0, below Parken Bakery. This is in cooperation with StartupLab, and the facilities will be available for all tenants and members of our community. Read more here.
The construction work in Hardware Lab has already started and will finish around June 28. At the same time, in week 26, we start the work on the staircase and amphitheater. The renovation work in Glassgata will last through August and the beginning of September. We aim to finish the most intervening construction work between weeks 26 and 31.
We will keep you updated on how the construction period will affect you, and what measures we take to reduce the noise and potential inconveniences this project may cause.
We have worked closely with architects from Mad and Sane architects, and have full faith that their solutions will have a positive effect for the community in Oslo Science Park.
Hande AS is the builder that will do the construction work. They are experienced builders that have helped us with Parken Bakeri and the D2-floor earlier.
Project manager for this project is Community Manager, Thea Wiig.
